I’m live from Tokyo and feeling incredibly inspired and energized. As I type this, I’m vibin’ to this joint from Niniola that my friend Saqera put me on to:
If you’re new here, Seven Bops is a community sourced playlist curated to move you through the week. Every Wednesday I open up a thread for submissions. From the bops you submit and what I’m currently listening to, I curate a set of seven songs to share every Sunday. Y’all have been a little quiet with the shares over the past couple weeks but I’m gonna keep extending the invitation to share when you’re ready.
And you guessed it, it’s that time again! As I put together this Sunday’s playlist, I’d love to listen to your recommendations. If you have any, just reply to this thread with:
Your name + where in the world you’re sharing from,
The artist and title of the songs that’ve been moving you through the week, and
What makes the song a bop?
Submissions are open until Friday, April 28 at 6pm EST.
Just as a heads up, on top of this Sunday’s playlist, I’ve got a few more posts coming your way this week (Gifts for Your Growth and a new From Holley, With Love essay) so stay tuned.
Sending big love,
HMKM
P.S. Shout out to Marrion and Bo for sharing some selects with me via email! Keep ‘em coming ❤️.
Hi! I'm Kathy from Concord NC. I've been testing out a karaoke playlist, trying to find "my song" and really resonating with Brave by Sara Bareilles. It's reminding me to let my "words to be anything but empty."
Rita ~ Brooklyn, NY ~ Safe Within Your Hands, SAULT. heard it on the latest Soulection episode in a mix format / outside of the album context and it’s been on repeat since!
Ayyyyy! Ok I’ve got some bops to throw into the ring. The Star of a Story by Heatwave, Africa Habla by Tito Puente, Lowdown by Boz Scaggs, and my new favorite dreamy bop called Spin Me Around by The Marías.
Hi! Im Zakiya Zazaboi live from Los Angeles, California. I love the song Clandestine Dreams by Isaiah Mostafa + Astu from the new EP North Star. It's such a smooth song. Sometimes I find myself tearing up to it because it reminds me so much of those church days or sometimes i take a broom and do a whole routine to it. It's a lil slow + Soft, but i love it.
Not sure when this list started poppin' off, but a more upbeat recommendation is Like Sugar via the lord savior Christ, our Goddess, Chaka Khan. I heard some tea about her the other day and honey...all I'M saying is the more you play this song the more sexy times will come into your life. That's just my prediction, prove me wrong!
