This week feels like it’s zooming by and I hope y’all are able to take a moment (or a few) to slow down and savor the changing of the seasons. I’m processing how good the spring was and the soundtrack to those reflections has been wonderful — R&B, French pop, jazz, dance, and some fire rap.
Little Simz just released a new visual from her latest album, No Thank You, and it’s for one of my favorite songs on the project, Gorilla. This’ll be in rotation for the rest of the week (at least):
What are y’all vibing to this week? I’m working on the next edition of Seven Bops and would love to hear about the music that’s setting your summer off. If you’ve got some bops in mind, stop by the thread with:
Your name + where in the world you’re sharing from,
The artist and title of the songs that’ve been moving you through the week, and
What makes the song a bop?
Submissions are open until Friday, June 23 at 6pm EST.
Thank y’all for sharing!
Take it easy,
HMKM
Seven Bops is a community sourced playlist curated to move you through the week. Every Wednesday I create a thread for submissions. From the bops you all submit and what I’m currently listening to, I’ll curate a set of seven songs to share with you every Sunday.
Hi Hi! I'm Kathy from my last week on the east side of charlotte, 'bout to move to the west side of charlotte, NC, USA.
I had the exquisite and surprising opportunity to see Sylvan Esso in their opening night of their new tour this past week, and "Make It Easy" keeps sitting with me. The simple words of the lyrics build on each other to create nuance and a fuller story... and isn't that what most of us need, usually?
This verse, especially: "Know it easy, know it plain/Know it's simple, this lovin' thing/And in the darkness, you hear it ring/And when it freezes, it thaws again/Just like a record spinnin' 'round/Oh, can't you hear it, that lovin' sound?/It's playin' now, it's playin' now"
