Wassup y’all! I hope the days have been good to you. I was thinking about tomorrow’s playlist and realized I forgot to hit send on this call for submissions on Wednesday. My bad!
This week I’ve been devoting time to the future of work manifesto I’m writing and there’s been some fire music carrying me through the process. This joint is perfect for my dance breaks:
What have y’all been listening to this week and in preparation for the long weekend? If you’ve got recommendations, please share ‘em with us in the comments and include:
Your name + where in the world you’re sharing from,
The artist and title of the songs that’ve been moving you through the week, and
What makes the song a bop?
I’ll be working on the playlist throughout the day tomorrow to share by the evening so this time, I’m keeping submissions open until tomorrow July 2 at 12pm EST.
Sending love,
HMKM
Seven Bops is a community sourced playlist curated to move you through the week. Every Wednesday I create a thread for submissions. From the bops you all submit and what I’m currently listening to, I’ll curate a set of seven songs to share with you every Sunday.
Dorothy R. Santos (San Francisco Bay Area) here! I have been listening to Meshell Ndegeocello’s album The Omnichord Real Book. In particular and because I am a tarot reader, the song Towers (feat. Joel Ross) has been on my mind (and on repeat). While it’s a different type of bop, the reason I’ve been playing it and it has been a balm is that “nothing lasts forever” is real AF. Joy and sorrow are both fleeting. We destroy and break down as much as we build and north things into existence. And the Tower card in tarot is, for me, asks us is we’re willing to acknowledge the destruction of what we’ve built up and when are we willing to leave the “ruins” behind (“to let go”) and allowing the world to change. Like, are we willing to leave when we need to? People, projects, institutions...so, yeah, a contemplative bop. ♥️
Haha, I know what you meant. I was so amped when I saw she had a new album out. I haven't dug into it just yet but this record you mentioned is definitely a contemplative bop. I wanna find room for it on a future playlist. Thank you for your shares as always, Dorothy!
Jim - sunny Milton Keynes UK
Young Fathers - Drum - but pretty much the whole album too
reaches inside and moves you
Added this to my Apple Music rotation SWIFTLY. Thank you for sharing, Jim. This is a vibe!

I meant “birth,” not north 😁
